Jebel Mukaber & Silwan w/Mukhtars - Wed Mar 26
MediaCentral is pleased to invite you to explore the issues surrounding Israel’s relationship with the residents of eastern Jerusalem, led by Col. (ret.) Reuven Berko, former advisor on Arab affairs to Jerusalem police commander, and including visits with the Mukhtars of two eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods/villages, Wednesday, March 26th – 8:30am-1pm.
The field tour will include an overview, a meeting in the home of the Mukhtar of Silwan, Mr. Hussein Siyam and with a senior representative of the Jewish residents of Ir David (together), a tour and view of other eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods/villages, and a meeting in the home of the Mukhtar of Jebel Mukaber, Mr. Mahmoud Hamdan.
With this month’s attack on the high school at Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva and ongoing discussions about potential negotiations about Jerusalem as part of the Annapolis process, Jerusalem is once again in the headlines.
Following our briefing with Dr. Micahel Oren of the Shalem Center last week and in response to a number of requests, this tour and discussion will explore the competing claims to Jerusalem and the complex history and geography of the city. Event Archive
