Israel's 60th Anniversary

Among other activities, in the lead-up to Israel’s 60th Independence Day celebrations MediaCentral will hold several press briefings in the week of May 4-7 discussing different aspects of Israeli society, including Jewish-Arab relations, religious Zionism, the IDF and other social and cultural issues .

YItzchak Mais – Resisting the Holocaust

In the days before Israel’s Day for Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance, YItzchak Mais, author of Daring to Resist: Jewish Defiance in the Holocaust, will present and discuss a number of themes and examples exploring the various ways Jews responded to the challenges presented by the Nazi’s rise to power, occupation, deportation and mass murder.

 

Wednesday, April 30th – 11 am

Arab Israeli Identity – Ahmad Hijazi

Join us in a presentation/discussion of the complexities of the Arab-Israeli perspective on 60 years of statehood, director of international relations at the Jewish-Arab village of Neve Shalom, and lecturer on the Arab-Israeli conflict at Hebrew University.

In recognition of Israel’s Day for Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance, there will be no weekly “TGIT” gathering; journalists interested in contacts for information or interviewees are invited, as always, to contact MediaCentral.

Religious Zionism – Rav benny Lau

Rav Benny Lau, Rabbi of the Bet Morasha Institute and of the Ramban Synagogue & community in Jerusalem, will explore the ideological meaning of the State of Israel from a religious Zionist point of view.

What Does it Mean to be a SOLIDER?

Israel is a mosaic of over 100 cultures and ethnic identities – and the IDF is one of the powerful forces of assimilation into Israeli society for the youth of the nation.  IDF soldiers come from diverse backgrounds: Ethiopian, Russian, American, Beduin; religious, traditional & anti-religious; Jewish, Muslim, Druze, Christian and more.  Here the stories of some of these soldiers, with a chance to interview them on the record.  [Tentative – to be confirmed.]
