Silwan/Ir David Disputed Building Tour

Silwan/City of David Building Issues

 Tuesday, Feb 23, 8:30am-1:30pm

*ATTN: This tour is full. All further registrations will be put on the waiting list.*

Unauthorized buildings in the Silwan/City of David area have been slated for demolition - constructed, owned and lived in by both Jews and Arabs.  The Jerusalem municipality is at odds with the State Attorney and they and the government must address the challenge whether to approve Beit Yehonatan (a Jewish-owned building) retroactively, or destroy it, along with other illegally-built houses belonging to Arab residents in the area.

Join MediaCentral on this special briefing and tour to the Jerusalem Municipality and to Silwan/City of David itself to better understand the legal and political complexities of the issue.

This unique tour will include:

  • Briefing at the municipality with Naomi Tzur, deputy mayor of Jerusalem with the portfolio of city planning
  • Viewing of the Jerusalem model with an explanation of the city's future building plans in the area
  • Briefing with Daniel Luria, spokesman for Ateret Kohanim at Beit Yonatan and Jewish residents
  • Briefing with Fakhri Abu Diab, spokesperson for the Al Bustan neighborhood in Silwan, and residents of the neighborhood currently living in a protest tent

A fee of 50 Shekels will cover transportation costs and snacks.  Meet at 8:15am at Safra Square, Jerusalem Municipality.
