Sukkot, or Feast of Booths, is the third holiday in the Hebrew month of Tishrei, and is one of the most important Jewish holidays. Jewish families throughout Israel and the Diaspora are busy constructing festive Sukkot, ahead of the week long festival which begins at sundown on Sunday, October 16th. It commemorates the temporary housing of the Israelites as they wandered in the desert for 40 years. It is a particularly joyous holiday that combines religious and agricultural elements, as it’s also the harvest festival. Christians celebrate it as the Feast of the Tabernacles.
