The “Iron Swords” war broke out in the early morning hours of October 7—fifty years and one day from the start of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The number of Jews killed was the most on one day since the Holocaust and Israelis have witnessed atrocities that they never thought would be repeated. MediaCentral was the first to help foreign journalists in the country get updated on what exactly was going on with a Zoom conference just hours after the war erupted. We have continued to follow the resulting military operations and have assisted the more than one thousand reporters who have been sent to the region to cover the events.
Dec. 04: Children In Captivity and After: Testimonies by Relatives and Professionals
Sisters, Danielle Aloni (45) and Sharon Aloni Cunio (34) were kidnapped from the former’s home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, alongside their daughters – Emelia Aloni (6) and twins, Emma and Yuli Aloni Cunio (3). Sharon’s husband, David was also taken.
Except for David, they were all freed and are now in Israel. The former was released on November 24 and the latter on November 27.
In a statement, Aloni said “My daughters saw things that children their age should not have to see. A horror film. You feel like pinching yourself to wake up from this film…”
Moran Aloni, Daniel and Sharon’s brother, will share some of his nieces’ captivity testimonies (those approved to be disclosed).
Sharon Avigdori (52) and daughter Noam (12) were kidnapped from their home in Kibbutz Be’eri. They were both released on November 25 and are now in Israel.
Hen Avigdori, Sharon’s husband and Noam’s father, will talk about his daughter’s routine since her return.
These important testimonies will be followed by a discussion about the children’s lives in captivity, with Dr. Yael Mozer Glassberg, senior physician in the Returnee Children’s Department at Schneider Children’s Medical Center, and a member of Clalit Medical Center, who will discuss her work following the children’s return and present what is possible to share of what the medical team is dealing with.
