Israel’s border with southern Lebanon has indeed been quieter since 2006. But that quiet could be deceptive as military analysts note that Hezbollah has amassed tens of thousands of missiles which, they noted, are being stored in and under homes in southern Lebanon. A future military engagement with Hezbollah, would be highly destructive for both sides.
The tour to the northern border will include IDF strategic and military assessments of the threat from Hezbollah at this time. Military officials will also address the cooperation with UNIFIL and the army’s preparedness for a possible escalation of cross-border tensions in the future. In addition, leaders and residents of Israeli border communities will share their perspectives on security and their welfare given the constant threat from Hezbollah just over the border in southern Lebanon.
Our tour included:
An IDF Northern Command officer
Brigadier General (res.) Gal Hirsch, commander of Division 91 during the Second Lebanon War (at a strategic view point)
