Drafting Christians into the IDF and National Service

April 23, 2014PAST EVENT

Today, the IDF announced a new policy which includes sending preliminary conscription notices to all Christian Israelis, offering them the opportunity to serve in the IDF or civilain service (in hospitals, schools, youth movements, etc.).

Recently, Father Gabriel Nadaf and several Christian IDF veterans set up the “Israeli Christians Recruitment Forum,” aiming to significantly increase the number of IDF recruits from their community. The initiative has stirred controversy among Arab Israelis, with some condemning it as an effort to divide and weaken the sector, and others supporting it as a way to encourage greater participation in wider Israeli society.

The briefing included:

Father Gabriel Nadaf, founder and leader of the forum

Shadi Khaloul, spokesperson of the forum

Four former IDF soldiers (male and female) from the Christian community

(One-on-one interviews for TV/radio prior to or following the briefing available; please contact us in advance.)
