Security Along the Border with Lebanon Field Tour

January 24, 2018PAST EVENT

Last week, Iran-backed Qais al-Khazali, leader of the Iraqi paramilitary group Asaib Ahl al-Haq, visited Lebanon‘s border with Israel accompanied by Hezbollah fighters, declaring his readiness ‘to stand together with the Lebanese people and the Palestinian cause.”  A few days before, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, warned the threat of conflict between Israel and Iranian proxies in Syria and Lebanon is increasing by the week. Lebanon was thrust to the forefront of the power struggle between Saudi Arabia and Iran when Lebanon’s leader, Saad Hariri, resigned during a visit to Riyadh last month.  Israeli and Lebanese forces are on high alert following the recent political turmoil in Lebanon.

The day tour will focus on how Israel’s security and military along the northern borders are striving to prevent an unexpected escalation.

The tour will include:

  • Security briefing by an IDF Commander Northern Command at Benaya Lookout
  • Strategic briefing with Kobi Marom, a senior IDF Commander (ret)
  • Meeting with Misgav Am spokesperson and residents
  • Visiting a 1936 boutique hotel in Metula and hearing from the owner
  • Meeting with the mayor of Metula (TBC)
  • Lunch
