Recently Israel reconfirmed the status of 400 hectares in Gush Etzion as “state land” after determining that the parcel was not privately owned by Palestinian Arabs, a move criticized internationally as a ‘land grab’. And prior to yesterday’s Netanyahu-Obama meeting, Peace Now publicly denounced a decision two years ago by the Jerusalem municipality to promote new housing projects for Jews and Arabs on Givat Hamatos in southern Jerusalem.
Our field tour to the areas involved will explore the legality of Israel’s building in areas beyond the 1949 armistice line, overlooking the sites in question.
The field tour includes:
Briefings on Givat Hamatos and in Gush Etzion with Prof. Eugene Kontorovich, a leading expert on the legal issues in the Arab-Israeli conflict and advisor to US and Israeli governments.
Briefing with David Perl – Head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council
