MediaCentral is arranging a trip to the north in light of tension on Israel’s borders with Syria and Lebanon, and following Wednesday’s briefing with Professor Efraim Inbar on Hezbollah.
Earlier today, IDF forces fired at positions in Syria after at least two rockets were launched at Israel. Hundreds of visitors to the Mt Hermon ski site had to be evacuated because of the security threat. The attack comes nine days after an alleged Israeli air strike in Syria killed several Hezbollah operatives and an Iranian genera; Iran and Hezbollah have promised a ‘devastating’ response. Israel has recently boosted its military presence and deployed an Iron Dome anti-missile installation to the area.
We will visit several lookout points including Mt. Hermon*, Metulla, and one of the Druze villages, and meet with experts and local leaders.
The tour included:
Briefing on Mt. Hermon* with IDF (res) Colonel Kobi Marom, formerly head of the Hermon brigade and a resident of Neve Ativ at the base of the mountain.
Meeting with leaders of the Druze community on the Golan.
Briefing with the mayor or other leader and security officer of Metulla or other northern village on the border with Lebanon.
Briefing with the head or representatives of the Golan regional council and meetings with residents living in the Golan and along the northern border.
- Interview with Yair Lapid of the Yesh Atid Party.
