Tension is mounting along the Lebanon-Israel border. The dispute revolves around a border barrier the IDF is constructing, contested rights to offshore natural gas exploration, and Israeli warnings that Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy, is turning the country into a base to attack Israel. Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Monday warned that a number of mounting disputes with Israel could lead to war. Lebanon top security officials have instructed the army to confront any Israeli aggression on its land, saying that the barrier violates Lebanon’s sovereign territory. Israel does not intend to halt construction of the barrier with Lebanon. Israel said it was acting in its own sovereign territory in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution adopted after Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 2000. The day tour will focus on how Israel is securing it’s border. The tour will see the construction of the strategic barrier from near Metula. During the tour speakers will include the UNIFIL spokesperson who will discuss the UN perspective about the construction, and community leaders and residents who will discuss experiences living along the border.
