Israel responds to the UN’s Gaza War Report

June 22, 2015PAST EVENT

The U.N. Human Rights Commission (which includes Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan) report on the war in Gaza finds both sides responsible for so called “war crimes.” Israel has slammed the report as “politically motivated and morally flawed from the onset.”

Israel preempted the inquiry with its own 200-page report on Operation Protective Edge (Zuk Eitan) which was given last week to the UN. It outlined the tactical, strategic and legal challenges of fighting against Hamas, a force that does not abide by the law of armed conflict.

Our distinguished speakers will present their perspectives on the inquiry; it’s value as well as the diplomatic and political ramifications for Israel.

  • Sara Weiss Maudi is director of the Foreign Ministry international law department

  • Professor Robbie Sabel is an expert in international law and has served as legal adviser to the Foreign Ministry.

  • Iris Kohn is the president of the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists. She assisted the UN inquiry team with information and interviews for their report. Kohn is a former director of the Justice Ministry’s department of international affairs and served on Israel’s committee for the International Criminal Court.
