Israeli Civilian Campaign for Syria

December 22, 2016PAST EVENT

Half a million Syrians have been killed in the five-year civil war, more than seven million have been forced to flee Syria including the hundreds of thousands who went to Europe. According to recent publications an estimated 400,000 people are living in besieged areas where humanitarian access is limited, and where some are dying of starvation.

Besides the thousands of Syrian wounded that are being treated in Israeli hospitals, Israel officially declared it will not intervene in the Syrian war. Several recent social initiatives decided to do whatever they can to help.

MediaCentral was pleased to host the main initiators:

Yoav Yeivin, among the founders of Just Beyond Our Borders, a voluntary civic campaign that invites Israelis to take part and help Syrian children with a  financial contribution that will be used to buy food, medicines and winter equipment. The campaign’s goal was to mobilize 600,000 NIS, but has already collected almost a million NIS.

Moti Kahana, an American-Israeli businessman and philanthropist who founded the organization Amaliah.org, which is now working in tandem with the Israeli Defense Force and Syrian local council, toward a goal of bringing over a million Syrians back home to a designated “Safe Zone,” territory in Southern Syria on the border with Israel.

Gal Lusky, CEO and Founder of Israeli Flying Aid (via conf. call), a non-profit, volunteer-based NGO, that delivers life saving aid to communities affected by natural disasters and human conflict, operating in places where local regimes prevent entry from formal international humanitarian organizations. They are transferring medical supplies, food, sanitary kits and home heating products to Syrian citizens, who have suddenly found themselves on the battlefield.
