The week-long Passover festival which begins next Friday eve, April 22nd, celebrates the transition of the Israelites from slavery to freedom. The ritual-rich holiday mandates that Jews remove all leaven from the kitchen and the home which is interpreted as a time for intensive spring cleaning.
Tamar Cohen, a licensed tour guide, will take the group through the picuresque alleywats and small communities of Nachlaot where the Passover rituals are in full swing.
The tour included:
A guided walk in the Haredi Orthodox neighborhood of Nachlaot .
Viewing the ‘hagala’ – communal dipping of kitchenware koshering them for Passover.
Meeting Yehuda Raz’el – a Haredi orthodox resident, who grew up in Nachlaot, in the midst of his holiday preparations.
A tour of the Haba matza bakery which only operates at this time of year.
