The protests of mostly Ethiopian Israelis in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem turned violent after police tried to open the streets being blocked by the protesters. Several police officers and protesters were injured during the clashes which erupted when video emerged of an Ethiopian Israeli IDF soldier beaten by police. Angry Ethiopians charged police with brutality and racism against their community.
The violent clashes have sparked serious debate on Israel as a society that absorbs immigrants from all over the world. The briefing will focus on the difficulties and the realities facing the Ethiopian community, both immigrants and those born here.
