The ongoing rioting in Jerusalem has involved a number of factors, including claims by Arab leaders of Israeli intentions to change the status quo on the Temple Mount; opposition to Israel’s announced plans to build new homes in Ramat Shlomo and Har Homa; and Arab residents’ dissatisfaction with city services.
Following earlier tours to Silwan, the City of David and the Yemenite village and to Givat HaMatos, MediaCentral is continuing our focus on the issue of Israeli neighborhoods built across the 1949 armistice lines in Jerusalem. This tour heads north to Ramat Shlomo, which caused headlines during US VP Biden’s visit in 2010, and to Shuafat, where much of the rioting near the light rail has occurred.
Starting with a briefing at the office from Professor Menachem Klein, a professor of modern Mideast history at Bar Ilan University and former advisor to PM Ehud Barak, the event continues with:
Meetings with Jewish/Israeli residents and community leaders in Ramat Shlomo
Meetings with Arab/Palestinian residents and community leaders in Shuafat
