On Oct 7, 2018 a shooting took place in Alon Metal Factory, one of 160 factories in Barkan Industrial Park. A 23-year-old Palestinian man from the village of Schweica, opened fire, murdering Kim Levengrond Yehezkel (28), from Rosh HaAyin and Ziv Hagbi (35), from Rishon LeZion. Sarah Vettori (54), from Ariel was also wounded. The IDF and the security forces are conducting a wide-scale hunt in efforts to locate the shooter. Barkan Industrial Park is a symbol of co-existence, providing employment to thousands of Israelis and Palestinians who work side by side. The shooting could have major implications on security majors and grant of work permits to Palestinian employees.
